Afterschool, Nature Camp & Adult Education Coordinator

The Afterschool, Nature Camp and Adult Education Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating and teaching afterschool programs as well as supporting all activities of VINS Nature Camp and expanding adult education offerings. The position requires excellent team relations, customer service, organizational and communication skills and experience in lesson planning and group management. This is a position with significant opportunities to assume responsibilities across a wide range of administrative and program development activities.

REPORTS TO: Lead, Nature Camp and Adult Education

JOB LOCATION: VINS Nature Center, 149 Natures Way, Quechee, Vermont

Afterschool Program (During School Year)

  • Manage logistics for the execution of afterschool programs with school administrators and other afterschool partners
  • Plan, prepare, and teach inquiry-based and engaging natural science and STEM lessons for afterschool programs
  • Implement registration system for afterschool participants, manage registrations, collect and maintain student documents and attendance records
  • Regularly evaluate program’s success through student, parent and school survey data
  • Recruit new schools and students to participate in afterschool programs to expand offerings
  • Develop, create, purchase, and maintain materials for afterschool programs
  • Maintain effective communication with parents/guardians, school administrators and other afterschool partners
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to students, and parents/guardians, before, during and after their participation in VINS Afterschool Program

Nature Camp (On-going)

  • Assist with the administration, management, and supervision of VINS Nature Camp including: registering participants, supporting daily camp operations, providing behavior management and disciplinary intervention, and maintaining and creating program materials
  • Oversee the Leaders in Training (L-I-T) volunteer program throughout the year: fielding applicants, scheduling L-I-Ts for volunteer weeks, and supervising preparation and execution of L-I-T curriculum

Adult Programs (On-going)

  • Assist with scheduling, marketing, and registering participants for adult education workshops and events
  • Work with Lead Nature Camp and Adult Education to expand adult program offerings bringing additional focus to and raising awareness of current issues including climate change and wildlife conservation

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred. Experience in the following fields is preferred but not required: education, recreation/outdoor management, environmental science/studies
  • Previous work experience with camp programs or in other educational settings and skill in group leadership and behavior management
  • Familiarity and comfort with teaching natural science and STEM topics to children of all age groups
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to carry bulky, heavy teaching equipment (up to 40 lbs)
  • Current driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to lead educational activities over diverse terrain and in all weather conditions
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Working knowledge of the following: Microsoft Excel and Word, understanding of database systems and general computer literacy

All VINS staff working directly with children are subject to a thorough background check, including fingerprinting and a criminal record check.

Compensation & Work Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Compensation: $17.00+ per hour
  • The regular work week is 40 hours, some evening and weekend work is required
