With new cases reported seemingly daily, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) presents a serious threat to wild and domestic birds around the world. In the U.S., bird flu has been detected in species from crows to pelicans to bald eagles and poultry farmers have already culled millions from their flocks to contain the spread of this highly contagious virus.

This is not the first time an outbreak of avian influenza has occurred, and it won’t be the last. Join VINS’ consulting veterinarian, Dr. Basil Tangredi, to learn about the biology and ecology of this dangerous virus. Find out how HPAI affects birds and what past outbreaks can tell us to expect from this one.

Meet Dr. Basil Tangredi
Dr. Tangredi was in private practice on Long Island, NY for 32 years and, as a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, donated much of his time to wildlife rescue organizations and to conducting wildlife disease investigations. Due to his research during the West Nile virus outbreak, he became a consultant to the Suffolk County Health Department. He has been a consultant to VINS since 2005..

*Registration is required. A $10 donation is suggested.
