How long does it take for that orange peel tossed on the trail to decompose? What about that aluminum can dropped from the Canopy Walk? Where did all that tall grass in the forest come from? Join VINS on Earth Day to learn ways you can help out your planet by joining a local clean up day or invasive pull. 

Schedule:

10 AM – 4 PM / Earth Day Station
Come learn how long it takes for different materials to decompose, how invasive species can impact our ecosystems and ways you can help. Learn about Vermont’s annual Green Up Day and other local clean up days you can join in your own neighborhoods!

10:30 AM / Turtle Breakfast / Hawkfly or Neale Pavilion
Meet Turt and Jersey, VINS ambassador Turtles, as they have their morning stroll and breakfast and chat with an educator about how reptiles survive winter.

11 AM / Raptors in Conservation / Hawklfy
Learn how raptor conservation saved species from the brink and what you can do to help them thrive in the wild.

12:30 PM / Songbird Aviary Tour / Songbird Aviary
Spend some time in our newest exhibit – the Songbird Aviary! An educator will familiarize you with this special group of birds and point out the ways you can make a great habitat for these important creatures in your own backyard.

2 PM / Raptors in Conservation / Hawkfly
Learn how raptor conservation saved species from the brink and what you can do to help them thrive in the wild.  

2:30 PM / Raptor Feeding Time / Bald Eagle Enclosure
Join our raptor care-givers for feeding time! Learn about the habits and history of each of the resident raptors at VINS as you watch them enjoy their daily meal.

3 PM / Hawk on the Walk / Forest Canopy Walk
What’s that shadow moving between the trees? Keep your eye to the sky on the Forest Canopy Walk while our Harris’s Hawk is out for a free-flight adventure! (Weather permitting).
