Welcome to the fascinating world of insects! Renowned insect expert Sam Jaffe will showcase a multitude of live caterpillars from The Caterpillar Lab. Through demonstrations, exhibits, games and crafts, visitors to the VINS Nature Center will have a fun day discovering the insects we share our planet with.

All Day / 10 AM – 5 PM

• Beekeeper Peter Hadeka / Area beside the Reptile Room
  Come learn about the fascinating life of a bee hive. Honey for sale.
• Dragonflies with the Black River Action Team (BRAT) / Hawkfly (near path)
  Learn how you can be a Dragonfly Detective!
• Bug Safaris / Meadow
  Go on a bug hunt. Educators will be with you to help you identify the critters you find. How many bugs will you catch?
• Bugs of the Canopy Walk / Forest Canopy Walk
  Learn about what makes a bug and go look for them high up in the trees. There’s a whole new world of bugs you could find up in the Canopy!
• Gettin’ Buggy Crafts / Pavilion Overhang

11 AM  – 12 PM / Hawkfly
Invertebrates with Uncharted Wild
The up close encounter will be sure to delight folks of all ages with their collection of invertebrates. Learn how spiders aren’t insects and how these creatures survive in this big big world.

11:30 AM – 4:30 PM / Neale Pavilion
Caterpillar Lab
Learn about the wonderful world of caterpillars at the amazing Caterpillar Lab Exhibit. Hundreds of native New England caterpillars on display for you to observe.

1 PM – 2 PM / Hawkfly
Invertebrates with Uncharted Wild
Uncharted Wild will be sure to delight folks of all ages during this up close encounter with their amazing collection of invertebrates. Learn how spiders aren’t insects and how these creatures survive in this big big world.

2 PM – 2:30 PM / Hawkfly
Reptile Time
Want to meet some totally “cool” creatures? Join a VINS Educator to learn all about our resident reptiles!

Predators of the Sky
Join us as we explore the natural world through the eyes of raptors.
