Growing Up as a Bug: Everyone’s childhood is different, so you can imagine the stories you can get from half a million species of insects. From her insectarium in Costa Rica, Bryna B. will share some of the parenting styles and family dynamics that go on right under our feet and above our heads.

Welcome to the fascinating world of insects! Renowned insect expert Sam Jaffe will showcase a multitude of live caterpillars from The Caterpillar Lab. Learn about the importance of pollinators and meet a local beekeeper. In addition, you’ll get to meet entomologists who study the small insects found in streams and lakes. Through demonstrations, exhibits, games and crafts, visitors to the VINS Nature Center will have a fun day discovering the insects we share our planet with.

Learn about the wonderful world of caterpillars at the amazing Caterpillar Lab Exhibit. Hundreds of native New England caterpillars on display for you to observe.

1:00 PM – 1:30 PM / Raptors Up Close / Hawkfly
Join us as we explore the natural world through the eyes of raptors.

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM / Swing Peepers / August Pavilion
Come join in the musical fun! Performing interactive songs and stories the Swing Peepers will get you moving and singing along.

3:00 PM – 3:45 PM / Predators of the Sky / Hawkfly
Join us as we explore the natural world through the eyes of raptors.

Go on a bug hunt. Educators will be with you to help you identify the critters you find. How many bugs will you catch?

Bugs of the Canopy Walk / Forest Canopy Walk
Learn about what makes a bug and go look for them high up in the trees. There’s a whole new world of bugs you could find up in the Canopy!
