Join us at the VINS Nature Center for a Homeschool Series! Winter Lessons will take place in the (indoor) Neale Pavillion but there will be opportunities for outdoor exploration and nature play in the company of other families. You are also welcome to stay on campus after the lessons to enjoy the public programs, exhibits, and hiking trails.
Specific lesson topics include:
- Sound Stations and Vibrations – Discover vibrations and how sound travels in waves. Explore a variety of sound stations and investigate whether sound can travel through different materials.
- What Does Light Travel Through? – Investigate what it means to be transparent, translucent, and opaque. Test and sort a variety of household objects.
- Sound, Light, and Communication – Learn how animals use sound in communication and communicate using a home-made musical instrument. Discover how fireflies use bioluminescence to speak in code. Can you communicate a secret message to a friend using only a flashlight?
* Please note that there is a week off between January 17 and January 31 and that winter lessons begin at 9:30 in case the Neale Pavillion is required for the Public Raptor Program at 11:00.
