Sport of Kings Day
Saturday, September 21 / 10 AM – 5 PM
Included with admission to the VINS Nature Center
Lords, Ladies and Lieges, all are invited to celebrate the Sport of Kings — falconry! Experience trained raptors up close, chat with real modern-day falconers, and learn the 3000-year old practice has evolved and adapted to the modern day. Hear some tall-tales from the forest with a pair of fantastical stilt-walkers, listen to music from local musicians as you eat lunch, and follow the surprising stories surrounding the history of taxidermy. Try your hand at historical weaponry with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) at the archery range and see what it takes to recreate artifacts from long ago. Everyone is welcome to dress the part for their visit to VINS on this adventurous day!
