STEAM Backpacks
Through the STEAM Backpacks Program, homeschool parents will be able to borrow a kit from VINS that provides the necessary directions, background information, and scientific tools to teach a deeply stimulating scientifically and standards-based curriculum. Each will be organized along a specific theme - Nature Explorer, Birds, Insects, Tracking, Day and Night Sky, and Geology - and will additionally be differentiated to suit the needs and abilities of K-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th grade students. Birds
This backpack has everything you need to learn about birds or go birding with your child. It includes themed books, tools, activities, directions for crafts, information and tips for adults, and handy hiking supplies (like a whistle, flashlight, wipes to wash your hands, reusable ziplocs for snacks or found treasures).
Insects
Rent this backpack for all the things your middle school aged child needs to go on an insect hunt. It includes themed books, tools, activities, directions for crafts, information and tips for adults, and handy hiking supplies (like a whistle, flashlight, wipes to wash your hands, reusable ziplocs for snacks or found treasures).
Nature Explorer
Take this backpack with you, and you will be prepared to explore the natural world around you with tools such as magnifying glasses, binoculars, and compass. Plus, investigate themed books, activities, directions for crafts, information and tips for adults, and handy hiking supplies (like a whistle, flashlight, wipes to wash your hands, reusable ziplocs for snacks or found treasures).
Geology
This backpack will help you dig into the fascinating world of geology. Examine the fossils, amber pieces, and rock and mineral kit, and compare them to the rocks you find in your backyard. Tracking

Rental Details
- $20 deposit if used onsite at VINS*
- $20 per week if used offsite*
Renters will need to acknowledge that they are responsible for the tools, games, and other materials in this backpack. They are responsible for paying the replacement cost for anything that is damaged beyond typical wear and tear.
*Only cash or check will be accepted. If rented for onsite use, a driver's license can be used as collateral in lieu of cash.
