VINS Afterschool Program

Hands-on Nature Exploration at the VINS Nature Center

Students will learn from the animals and habitats they encounter at the VINS Nature Center or the natural spaces around their school and discover the wonders of the natural world.

Multi-week sessions give students ample time to familiarize themselves with their local environment and make friends along the way.

Whether tracking an animal through the forest or creating a nature craft, VINS Afterschool Program provides fun, fresh air and outdoor adventure for children.

About our Program

The VINS Afterschool Program is an opportunity for students to continue their learning beyond the confines of the school day.

Hosted at the VINS Nature Center or in partnership with afterschool providers in the Upper Valley, our programs offer students hands-on exploration in the outdoors with a focus on cultivating scientific thinking and ecological awareness.

Hartland Elementary School: Trail Explorers / Grades 1 - 6

Wednesday Sessions (Grades 1-6)
September 18, 25 / October 2, 9, 16, 23

Note: No afterschool on May 1, due to early release days and spring recess.

Time: 2:30 PM – 4:45 PM

Transportation provided from Hartland Elementary School to VINS via the Hartland Recreation Department.

Pick-up will be held at 5:00 PM at the Hartland Recreation Center.

Cost:
Hartland Residents: $165 per child*
Non-Residents: $175 per child*
*Full session is required.

Description:
Lace up your hiking shoes and join us for some trail adventures at VINS this fall. In Trail Explorers, students will get out on daily short hikes to our VINS trails to explore the marvels of the forest and the wonders of wetlands. Each week will present opportunities to discover new happenings in the natural world and to learn about the autumn changes taking place amongst the creatures, plants, and habitats found along our trails.

Please note: Students should be dressed for the weather and plan to be outside for duration of program. All hiking will be conducted on the maintained trails within the VINS property.

Ottauquechee School: Trail Explorers / Grades K - 2

September 9, 16, 23, 30 / October 7, 21, 28

Note: No afterschool October 14.

Time: 3:15 PM to 5:15 PM

Transportation provided from Ottauquechee School to VINS via bus.

Pick-up at VINS Nature Center, 149 Nature's Way, Quechee, VT at 5:15 PM.

Cost: $119 per child ($17 per day)*
