Alden Smith grew up in Nashville, TN and has spent most of his career in Vermont. A graduate of Davidson College (1994) and Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English (2000), he taught at Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut before moving to Vershire, Vermont in 1999 to help lead the Mountain School of Milton Academy. As Director until 2022, Alden engineered several strategic plans, built an endowment, and expanded the campus to 420 acres, turning it into a model of energy efficiency and outdoor education. He Missy, and their three children now live in Norwich, Vermont. When he’s not working, Alden loves to explore the woods, play sports, read aloud to his children, and write.
