Senior Director of Development
The Senior Director of Development is a full-time position based at the VINS Nature Center in Quechee, Vermont.
This position will oversee all fundraising activities; including major giving, special events, direct mail appeals, corporate partnership initiatives, legacy giving and other fundraising programs, along with all marketing activities; print advertising, social media, press releases, social media and website maintenance.
We seek a strong leader who enjoys interacting with people, inspires the staff and Board to participate in our fundraising efforts, market our programs and believes in our mission and culture.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director
Primary Responsibilities
- Create a comprehensive development strategy and execute a fundraising plan supporting individual giving and donations as well as corporate sponsorship.

- Build new donor and sponsor relationships through recruitment and recognition
- Grow relationships with long-term donors, sponsors, volunteers and supporters
- Plan, organize and manage development-related events
- Execute annual fundraising and planned giving campaigns
- Oversee grant application process and schedule
- Overseeing the organization’s constituent database using fundraising software, Customer Relationship Management updates, including preparing management reports and analyzing data to increase funding and responsiveness to constituents.

- Collaborate with the Finance Office to establish annual fundraising budget
- Oversee Donor operations and database management
- Collaborate with Development and Marketing Committee and management to execute a comprehensive Communication Strategy.

- Work to ensure VINS Website is updated and functional for fundraising and marketing messaging
- Curate and manage email messaging, and press releases
- Develop and maintain marketing efforts to ensure compelling storytelling, promotional materials and distribution
- Review all print advertising and social media marketing
- Produce annual report
- Empower the development and marketing team, offering tools, resources, and be a sounding board for new ideas.

- Perform other duties to increase participation in and awareness of VINS’ programs and services.
Qualifications
Candidates with experience raising funds from diverse sources, including major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations are preferred. In addition, the candidate must be a good manager and team player:
- Strong and sound judgment, professionalism, and a positive attitude
- Strong attention to detail, strong facilitation, team building, and interpersonal skills
- Good time management skills, problem solver, and is able to work independently
- Demonstrated ability to work methodically and analytically
- Demonstrated success with event/meeting planning, donor building, and fundraising
- Good oral, written and presentation skills
- Must have advanced knowledge in the use of computer software (I, E, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Donor Base systems)
- Willingness to travel to cultivate and solicit qualified prospects
- Flexible schedule, some weekends and evenings will be necessary
Compensation & Work Schedule
Commensurate with experience. 40+ hours per week.
