Educator
The Educator in this position is responsible for helping to teach VINS School Programs lessons, as well as managing the Field Trip program at the VINS Nature Center. The primary job location is at the VINS Nature Center in Quechee, VT with travel to deliver programs.
REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Education
JOB LOCATION: VINS Nature Center, 149 Natures Way, Quechee, VT. Travel required.
Educator Duties
- Teach high quality science lessons to students and teachers in schools through VINS School Programs
- Teach high quality natural science lessons to students participating in a Field Trip to VINS
- Manage the Field Trip program including scheduling schools, teaching, and developing lessons
- Work collaboratively with the VINS School Programs team and other educators
- Update and maintain education and teaching materials
- Communicate with classroom teachers, including scheduling lessons and booking field trips
Organizational Responsibilities Include
- Attend VINS staff meetings and participate in occasional evening and weekend events
The successful candidate will demonstrate
- Experience teaching students in Kindergarten through Grade 4, ideally in environmental education
- Excellence in teaching inquiry science lessons (elementary teaching license preferred)
Excellent classroom management skills, both in an indoor and outdoor setting - Ability to develop strong rapport with teachers, administrators, and students
- Excellent speaking and writing skills
- Flexibility, creativity, and ability to think quickly in response to change
- Strong organizational skills and work ethic
- Bachelor’s Degree (Masters in Education or related field preferred)
- A valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and lead moderate to strenuous trail hikes and field trips in all seasons
All VINS staff working directly with children are subject to a thorough background check, including fingerprinting and a criminal record check.
Compensation & Work Schedule
Between $20 and $22 per hour, with benefits including health insurance, affordable dental and vision insurance, and a generous paid time off plan.
