Science Educator (Seasonal)

The Science Educator in this position is responsible for helping to teach VINS School Programs lessons, with a focus on either toddlers and preschoolers or elementary students, as well as teaching Field Trip lessons at the VINS Nature Center. The primary job location is at the VINS Nature Center in Quechee, VT with travel to deliver programs.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Education

JOB LOCATION: VINS Nature Center, 149 Natures Way, Quechee, VT

Science Educator Duties

  • Teach high quality inquiry science lessons to students and teachers in local preschools, daycare centers or schools through VINS School Programs
  • Teach high quality science lessons to PreK-Grade 4 students participating in a Field Trip to VINS
  • Work collaboratively with the VINS School Programs team and the rest of the VINS Education Department
  • Update and maintain education and teaching materials
  • Communicate with classroom teachers including scheduling lessons

Organizational Responsibilities Include

  • Attend VINS staff meetings and participate in organization-wide functions or special events as required

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching students in Preschool through Grade 4, ideally in environmental education
  • Excellence in teaching inquiry science lessons (early childhood or elementary teaching license preferred)
  • Excellent classroom management skills, both in an indoor and outdoor setting
  • Ability to develop strong rapport with teachers, administrators, and students
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills
  • Flexibility, creativity and ability to think quickly in response to change
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethic
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelors Degree (Masters in education or related field preferred)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and lead moderate to strenuous trail hikes and field trips in all seasons
