The Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) announces the addition of two exceptional leaders to its Board of Trustees. Mike Farber, co-founder of GreenStory, and Stuart Mathews, President of Metapoint Partners, will bring their extensive expertise and innovative perspectives to help VINS achieve its mission.

Mike Farber is co-founder of GreenStory, a climate communications agency. He previously started the climate practices at two large communications firms. He’s an advisor at Greentown Labs (North America’s largest cleantech incubator) and a corporator at Walden Mutual Bank (a climate-friendly bank focused on growing sustainable businesses in New England). Mike, his wife Carolyn, and their two kids have been visiting VINS since the organization was based in Woodstock. He splits his time between Quechee, VT and Concord, MA and is happiest in the woods, ideally hiking a mountain while on the lookout for animals and birds. He has a JD from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from Boston College.

Stuart Mathews works at Metapoint Partners, a private equity firm that he joined in 1989. Metapoint acquires small commercial-industrial product manufacturing businesses located primarily in New England. Over 35 years Metapoint acquired just over 35 businesses in a wide variety of industries. Stuart and his wife Pam met in Boston, raised their family in Waban, MA, and have a home in Woodstock. Stuart has been active in a wide variety of non-profits over the years. He served on the Board of Trustees at The Park School, Milton Academy, St. Stephen’s Youth Programs, and is currently on the Board of Trustees of Dickinson College. He is active in a variety of different local non-profits including the Woodstock Conservancy (a new initiative that is a Woodstock Community Trust Project) and is Chair of the Board of Pentangle Arts Council.

VINS Executive Director, Alden Smith, said: “Both these new board members bring exceptional skills to VINS and will make a positive impact right away. Stuart’s expertise in finance and governance will play an important role in our future development. Mike’s long association with VINS and deep experience in story marketing will help us communicate the magic of this place far and wide.”

These strategic appointments come at a pivotal moment for the organization, as VINS continues to expand its environmental education programs, wildlife rehabilitation efforts, and research initiatives. For more information on the VINS Board, please visit vinsweb.org/about/board.
